150 personas vestidas de negro se apoyan en la barandilla del Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil en absoluto silencio. Llevan un libro, también negro, del que empiezan a arrancar páginas una a una, para luego dejarlas caer en el espacio libre. El sonido de las páginas al ser arrancadas invade la sala. Más tarde, los libros, con sus páginas descuidadamente recuperadas y puestas de nuevo en ellos, se dejan sobre una mesa, como esperando a que ocurra algo, mientras el sonido de la “ruptura” perdura en el espacio libre como un recuerdo vívido casi tangible. El performance/pieza sonora idealizada por Zamora para el CCBB permanece programáticamente abierta, sin dar lugar a una única manera de interpretarla. Por un lado, resume de forma clara el Zeitgeist, el espíritu de nuestro tiempo, ya que genera una sensación intangible y elusiva de insatisfacción y opresión afín a lo que muchos de nosotros sentimos al reflexionar sobre el mundo en que vivimos. Por otra, la ruptura conlleva un mensaje utópico de catarsis y liberación. La valentía necesaria para arrancar las páginas es la que puede salvarnos. A través de estos libros rasgados, el artista parece decirnos que podremos volver a empezar o, parafraseando a T.S. Eliot: con estos fragmentos apuntalaremos nuestras ruinas.
150 people dressed in black lean on the banister of the Centro Cultural Bancodo Brasil in absolute silence. They carry a book, also black, from which they start tearing off pages one by one, to then let them fall into the free space. The sound of the pages being torn invades the hall. Later on, the books, with their pages carelessly recovered and put back into them, are left on a table, as if waiting for something to happen, while the sound of the ‘rupture’ lingers in the free space as an almost tangible vivid memory. The performance/sound piece idealized by Zamora for the CCBB remains programmatically open, without leading to only one way of interpreting it. On one hand, it summarizes in clear way the Zeitgeist, the spirit of our times, as it generates an intangible and elusive sensation of dissatisfaction and oppression akin to what many of us feel while reflecting upon the world we live in. On the other, the rupture carries a utopic messageof catharsis and liberation. The bravery needed to tear off the pages is the one that can save us. Through these ripped books, the artist seems to say that we will be able to start again, or, paraphrasing T.S. Eliot: these fragments we willshore against our ruins.
